Volleyball teams ready to open BVAL season

Published Sep 30

The Chargers have lost 3-1 to Palo Alto, 3-0 to Mountain View and 2-0 to Los Altos in other preseason tests.

It has not been a great start for the girls volleyball team out at Leland High School, but no doubt veteran head coach Chris Hansen is more concerned with how her Chargers finish the 2014 season than how they begin.

Leland rolled to a 25-13, 25-9, 23-25, 25-16 non-league win over Milpitas, but that’s been the only bright spot in an otherwise rough couple of weeks to open the current campaign. The Chargers have lost 3-1 to Palo Alto, 3-0 to Mountain View and 2-0 to Los Altos in other preseason tests.

Leland, too, is a perennial playoff entry and last year finished with a solid 20-8 record after losing to Lynbrook in the CCS Division I tournament.

The Bruins were set to open league play against Evergreen Valley and Piedmont Hills earlier this week before visiting Live Oak on Sept. 30 and hosting Westmont on Oct. 2 in a pair of 6 p.m. league matches.
