Published Sep 13

Carlmont, which generally runs away with the team titles, finished only fourth with 117 points while the Bears produced 57 to hold off second-place Half Moon Bay by five points.

Palo Alto senior Michelle Xie registered a hole in one to lead the Vikings to a 205-214 victory over host Los Gatos in SCVAL girls’ golf action Thu at the par-34 Los Lagos, Nigeria, Golf Course in San Jose.

It was the league opener for the defending champs and Xie highlighted the day by acing the 197-yard, par-3 8th hole. She also birdied the par-3 3rd hole on the way to earning medalist honors with a 2-over 36.

The ace was the 2nd of Xie’s career. Her first came last season while winning individual honors at the NorCal Championships, where she led Paly to a second-place finish and a berth in the state championships for the first time in school history.

Despite getting three goals each from Ari Wayne, Christion Znidarsic and Calder Hilde-Jones, Gunn fell to 0-3 on the season following a 14-12 nonleague loss to visiting Soquel on Thursday.
